Evan McPherson, a 2021 NFL Draft fifth-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals, is known as Money Mac. It is a nickname that McPherson earned based on his accuracy as a kicker. He was a major reason for the Bengals’ success during the 2021/22 NFL season and postseason and wanted to make sure that he had proper representation to further secure his developing brand.
So, through McPherson’s agent who, like McPherson and the owner of Heitner Legal, went to the University of Florida, this firm got to work protecting this valuable piece of intellectual property.
In January 2022, Heitner Legal was retained by McPherson to file a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to register the mark MONEY MAC in connection with the intended commercial use of the mark for various types of apparel. The representation has evolved to also assist McPherson against an opposer of the registration in a Trademark Trial and Appeal Board action.
